Curiosities

  • “Old Maslenica Bridge” – In Croatian War of Independence, on November 21st 1991, was blown up and completely destroyed.
  • On the territory of Jasenice Municipality there are three preserved natural reservates. Precisely, these are Canyon of Zrmanja River from Obrovac to estuary, one part of Velebit Mountain inside the territory of Jasenice Municipality and Modrič cave.
  • Churches of St Francis, St Jerome and St George with surrounding graveyard are under highest protection according to the Croatian register of immovable cultural goods.
  • The church of St Jerome in Jasenice was destroyed in Croatian war of Independence on the date of the Feast of the Holy Jerome September 30th 1991.
  • The church of St George in Rovanjska is preserved in its original form of half-cross with a specific cupola in oval shape and barrel-vaulted ceiling.
  • Majstorska road was built by perforating rocks. According to the legend, workers complained to an architect of impossible conditions of perforation to which he promised them a gold measure of the same stone weight. Majstorska road is enrolled on a list of protected heritage goods of Republic of Croatia, because of its great monument and landscape value,
  • Tulove grede – a group of high rocks with unusual shape braking out of karst from ancient times cause awe and awake imagination among people. Folk legends tell stories about dragons hatching eggs on Tulove grede while in the rock cracks lived invisible Velebit fairies.
  • Winnetou – From the state road D54 direction Obrovac, about 8 km from Jasenice, turn left on an old road towards Sveti Rok. On a spacious flatland, on the left side of the road, was a camp of railwaymen in the film Winnetou III and now-a-days traces of set trails can be recognized.
  • Modrič Cave – the temperature in the cave is between 16-17C degrees throughout the year.
  • The church of St. Francis was built to celebrate Majstorska road construction and in honour of Emperor Franz Joseph.
  • The highest bridge for bungee jumping in Croatia is Maslenica Bridge, 56 metres.
  • Former Dračevac fort near the hill on the southern part of the village Jasenice. Here was situated Venetian garrison and the fort served as a helping point in defence from Turkish invasion and shepherds from Lika.
